Greek poetry and cinema. The example of a comparison: Takis Sinopoulos, Nekrodipnos - Alain Resnais, Hiroshima mon amour

Abstract
This paper aims at presenting and commenting on some interesting aspects of the relationship between twentieth-century Greek poetry and cinema. As a specific case study of the complex relationship between cinema and poetry on the basis of historical memory, the paper will focus on the relationship between Nekrodipnos (1972), a poetic synthesis by Takis Sinopoulos, and Alain Resnais' film Hiroshima mon amour (1959). In
the first place, we shall record and comment the various elements pertaining to the general relationship of the poet and intellectual Sinopoulos with the Greek and international cinema. Subsequently, the gist of our study, the comparison between the poetical synthesis and the film, proceeds along three axes: A. Time, memory's function and the mingling
of past and present. B. The heterogeneity of materials and form's precedence. The mixing of prosaic and poetical genres. C. The open-endedness of both the film and the poem. The final conclusion of the study is that the poetic synthesis and the film display important
and complex analogies.
