The Influence of German Documentary Theatre of the Sixties on Conteporary Greek Dramaturgy
Abstract
This study is a first attempt to examine the influence of German Documentary Theatre on contemporary Greek theatre. Using as criterion the relationship of the dramatic play to the documentary material, we attempt a classification of the different forms into three types. A characteristic play for each of these types is presented briefly and serves as exemple for comparison with the Greek plays, wich are The Trial of the Six by B. Basilikos, The Guests by P. Markaris, Strike and Case K.K. by G. Skourtis. The analysis concludes, that allthough there is allways a corresponding type in the German documentary drama, the Greek plays do not use it as a model for imitation. On the contrary the Greek playwrits have embraced this idea and formulate their own independent dramatic proposal, so that we witness and assimilation and adaptation, the most productive form of influence of a temporally and locally defined esthetic phenomenon on an other national area.
