Abstract

The present study investigates the functional differentiation of bilingualism in the work of the Greek-French rapper Vlospa, examining code-switching as a performative strategy for the construction of artistic identity. A bilingual corpus of lyrics is analysed using Textometry methods (Iramuteq software), specifically Specificities Analysis and Hierarchical Descending Classification (Reinert Method). The quantitative findings substantiate a clear structural and semantic asymmetry: the Greek language functions as a "Base Language," dominated by verbs of subjectivity and narration, while French emerges as a "Symbolic Language," constituting a distinct lexical world that exclusively serves the rhetoric of Braggadocio. The paper argues that code-switching is not random but constitutes a conscious strategy. The artist utilises French slang to imbue his persona with authenticity and international prestige, while simultaneously retaining Greek for an experiential connection with the local audience, thus transforming bilingualism from a barrier to comprehension into a valuable poetic resource.
