Abstract
The church of the Transfiguration of Christ (Soteira tou Kottaki) is dated to the Middle Byzantine period. It is a cross-in-square church – complex four-columned with compressed bema. Many interventions and extensions during the nineteenth and the twentieth century led to the alteration of many of its original characteristics. Recently, it was made possible to look closer to some of its original features while new evidence was revealed, such as the interior masonry and pieces of the wooden tie beams of the Middle Byzantine church.
