Abstract
Since the construction of the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, the dome became one of the most prominent features of Orthodox churches. The domes carried by sixteen-faceted drums, a type with limited appearance, are examined. This group includes churches influenced by Hosios Loukas in Steiri, scattered throughout Greece, while it appears that some churches in Constantinople were also probably influenced by this important building. Churches with cylindrical drums with sixteen windows belong to a different category.
