Abstract
The principal image of the double-sided icon in Kastoria is that of Saint George, depicted full-length and framed by twelve scenes from his life; on the reverse the two Hagioi Theodoroi stand facing one another. From the artistic point of view, the two sides of the icon are contemporary, and are the work of a painter from Kastoria of the late 14th century. This painter displays close iconographic and stylistic links with the fresco decoration of churches in Kastoria of the second half of the 14th century, such as Hagios Georgios tou Vounou (1368-1385), and especially the last fifteen years of the century, such as Hagios Athanasios tou Mouzaki (1383/84) and Christ Zoodotes in Borje near Korytsa (1389/90).
