Abstract
Four Late Byzantine churches at Vatika in Laconia preserve masonry templa with carved architectural features that adopt forms of Late Medieval Western architecture. Their unusual form must mainly be attributed to the improvisation of a local workshop. The templa date probably from the first half of the 15th century or somewhat later. Some of their details also appear in the carved stonework of Late Byzantine churches of the area.
