Abstract
The paper examines one of the significant examples of medieval Georgian façade sculptural portraits once decorating the south façade of Tbet'i cathedral (Tao-Klarjet'i, south-west region of medieval Georgia). The relief depicts a donor, a member of the Bagrationi royal family, Ašot Kuxi (891-918), who had the title of eristavt-eristavi (archont of archonts), clad in a lavishly decorated official dress, with a turban-like headdress. The paper focuses on a wide range of sociocultural developments of the time revealed in this image.
