Abstract
The original decoration of the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Chryssovo, from which St. John the Baptist is preserved, is dated probably in the early 14th c. The second and more extensive layer, dating around 1500, is the work of a remarkable icon painter, a genuine representative of the 15th-century Cretan art, comparable to the well-known artists of that period. His work could be considered the link between Xenos Digenis and Theophanes the Cretan.
