Abstract
This paper presents an unknown liturgical work of embroidery (epitaphios) kept in the Church of the Dormition at Akrovouni, on Mt. Pangaion, near Kavala. It is an exquisite piece that can be attributed to Mariora, a famous embroideress of the first half of the 18th c. in Constantinople/Istanbul and dates to around 1750. It seems that it originates from the vibrant Greek Orthodox community of Demokraneia and that it was brought to its current location by refugees during the Exchange of Populations in the 1920s.
