Abstract
The monastery of Hosios Nikanor at Zavorda, Grevena was built in 1534 and the first layer of frescoes of the katholikon was painted by the famous painter Frangos Katelanos, probably between 1545-1548. During recent restoration of the frescoes, the preparatory sketches of two full-length saints identified by inscriptions as Aniketos and Photios came to light in the north and south porch of the west entrance. In terms of iconography, the two saints are usually depicted half-length in medallions, or in scenes of their martyrdom. The representation of the two full-length saints in Zavorda is perhaps unique, was preserved as a sketch and never completed.
