Abstract
The icons from the templon of the church of the Metamorphosis, in Veltsista (Klimatia), in the prefecture of Ioannina, have already been attributed to Cretan painters. However, based on iconographic and stylistic similarities between the despotic icons, the sanctuary doors and the fresco decoration, of the church as well as on some other frecsos of Epirotic monuments recently restored we suggest that the creators of these icons came from Epirus and were probably in contact with the workshop of the Kondaris brothers. The icons of the epistyle, the Deesis and the apostles can be attributed to Cretan painters, greatly influenced by the art of famous representatives of Cretan painting, active during its flourishing period.
