Eine neuentdeckte Ikone der «Madre della Consolazione» von Nikolaos Tzafoures
Abstract
While organizing an exhibition on icons of the Mother of God for the Icon Museum Recklinghausen in 2000 discovered an icon of the "Madre della Consolazione", which a Netherlandish couple had bought at an auction. Immediately realizing the high quality and age of the icon I asked them to let the icon be cleaned. The restorer (Ivan Bentchev) found traces of an inscription withe the name of Nikolaos Tzafoures. The article deals with the other six icons also signed by Tzafoures.
