Abstract

The re-examination and stylistic comparison of the decoration of the church of St. Blasius in Veria with that of the church of Christ in Veria prove that the former is merely the work of a mimesis rather than original work executed by the painter George Kalliergis. Conversely, the few frescoes in the church of the Taxiarchai in Thessaloniki may well be connected to his oeuvre on stylistic grounds; such a suggestion raises the date of the latter in the first fifteen years of the 14th century. Furthermore, four portable icons from the Vatopedi monastery on Mount Athos can be ascribed to his hand.
