The cell of Aghioi Pantes in Karyes of Athos seat of the painters from Karpenisi
Abstract
The cell of Aghioi Pantes of the monastery of Karakallou is locateci a short distance to the north of the church of Protaton in Karyes, the capital of Mount Athos. Archival data and the testimony of the Russian excursionist Porphyrii Uspenskij identify an escort of monks-painters, most of whom had a common origin in Karpenisi, who stayed in the cell of Aghioi Pantes from 1773 to 1890.
