The marble altarscreen of Saint Antonios in the old town of Corfu. A monument within a monument
Abstract
The marble altarscreen of Saint Antonios in the old town of Corfu (1753), a work of A. Trivolis-Pieris, adopts the Venetian Baroque pattern based on the Palladian usage of the superposi tion of two façades. In an innovative manner it uniformly joins to the ciborium of the altar, the raised dome of which recalls the familiar image of a domed basilica.
