Abstract

The massive losses of health in addition to the disasters which lead to situations of mourning seen to affect the psychological state of the citizens of the entire global community. This present study collects and analyses in an attempts to detect, through semi-structured interviews and Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis, the employment in mass condition of mourning of the Volunteer Samaritans-Rescuers of the Hellenic Red Cross. More specifically it investigates the psychological impact of the living/personal experience as far as the coping mechanisms regarding the train accident in Tempi Greece, on February 28, 2023. In this study, what has been predominately important was the guidelines, models and theories of disasters and massive losses of health, triage patient, first aid, search and rescue, disaster response, psychology, medical and paramedic. On the theoretical stages of bereavement the training of First Aid and Rescue Academies, do not appear to be closely related to neither the proper personal grieving process nore the management of generalized bereavement situations through accident, mass health loss and/or disaster, as all the psychosocial reactions are included in the category of ¨cold professional¨. On the one hand, the maintenance of an expected routine and personal care via accepting the event later is up to personal judgment, on the other hand, the immediate psychological upliftment and re-engagement in a state of mourning is placed in the component of both the disaster management cycle and the general philo-social norm of each Volunteer Rescuer.
