Οι κοροναϊοί της γάτας και η λοιμώδης περιτονίτιδα
Περίληψη
Το ποσοστό προσβολής του γενικού πληθυσμού των γατών από κοροναϊούς μπορεί να ανέλθει στο 10-40%. Ανάλογα με τη λοιμογόνο ικανότητα και τον τροπισμό του στελέχους προς ορισμένους τύπους κυττάρων (κύτταρα του εντερικού επιθηλίου, μακροφάγα), η μόλυνση μπορεί να είναι ασυμπτωματική ή να οδηγήσει σε κλινική νόσο που εκδηλώνεται ως γαστρεντερίτιδα ή ως αγγειίτιδα (υγρός και ξηρός τύπος της λοιμώδους περιτονίτιδας). Συχνά τα ζώα παραμένουν φορείς και αποτελούν πηγή μόλυνσης για τις υγιείς γάτες. Η απέκκριση του ιού γίνεται με τα κόπρανα, τις στοματορινικές εκκρίσεις και τα οΰρα. Η διάγνωση μπορεί να γίνει με τη βοήθεια του ιστορικού, της κλινικής εικόνας και των εργαστηριακών ευρημάτων (αιματολογικές, βιοχημικές, ουρολογικές, ορολογικές, μικροβιολογικές, ιστοπαθολογικές εξετάσεις). Η θεραπευτική προσπάθεια στις γάτες με λοιμώδη περιτονίτιδα (χημειοθεραπεία, υποστηρικτική αγωγή) συνήθως αποτυγχάνει και τα περισσότερα ζώα τελικά πεθαίνουν. Για την πρόληψη της, πρόσφατα έχει παρασκευασθεί και εμβόλιο βασισμένο σε θερμοευαίσθητο στέλεχος της λοιμώδους περιτονίτιδας που χορηγείται ενδορινικώς σε υγιείς γάτες μεγαλύτερες των 16 εβδομάδων.
