Μια ανάλυση της ερωτικής επιστολογραφίας του Εγγονόπουλου και του Σεφέρη με σώματα κειμένων
Abstract
The paper explores the romantic correspondence of Nikos Engonopoulos and Giorgos Seferis, two prominent figures of the Generation of the ’30s, with their future wives, including both premarital and marital exchanges. For the purposes of this analysis, a corpus of Engonopoulos’ premarital letters (11,398 words) was compiled and compared with a second corpus of his marital letters (5,755 words). Similarly, two corpora were created for Seferis, one with his premarital (53,476 words) and the other with his marital correspondence (39,016 words). The analysis suggests that the vocabulary of both Engonopoulos and Seferis differs between their premarital and marital letters. The former are marked by a more romantic and emotionally expressive style, while the latter shift toward a language more concerned with everyday life. The overall comparison between the two poets highlights additional contrasts: Engonopoulos’ letters display a richer emotional vocabulary and a more overtly romantic tone, whereas Seferis’ emotional expression is more restrained as he uses vocabulary more akin to a close friendship, with significantly fewer overt emotional references.
