Byzantine and Post-Byzantine church architecture at Ainos (Enez), Eastern Thrace

Abstract
When Georgios Lampakis visited Ainos (modern Enez), Eastern Thrace, Turkey in 1902, he recorded 23 Byzantine or Post-Byzantine churches, two of which had been converted to places of Muslim worship. This immense monumental wealth was largely eradicated after the expulsion of the Christian population from the city in 1922. The aim of this paper is to study of the building history and architecture of the churches of the city via a macroscopic inspection of the monuments by the authors in combination with the study of the available bibliography, old descriptions, and old photographs.
