Abstract
The Despotic icons of Christ Pantocrator, the Virgin Hodegetria, Saint John the Baptist, and the Archangel Michael, which are incorporated in the temple of the new church of Saint Spiridon in Kastoria are attributed to the productive painter of the first half of the 16th century Ioannis from Grammosta, in the wider region of Kastoria. Two other icons of Christ Pantocrator which are housed in the Byzantine Museum of Kastoria are attributed to the same painter on the basis of stylistic elements. All the above icons and those kept at the Museum and the Episcopal Residence of Kastoria and recently attributed to the same painter, as well other related works, prove the importance of this active artist to the region of Kastoria and Ohrid.
