Abstract

An inscribed embroidered aer is on display at the museum of the Monastery of Panagia Tsambika at Archangelos, Rhodes. The textile depicts a moment of the Divine Liturgy that precedes the Communion of the Apostles embroidered on red silk fabric. In the center of the scene Christ is portrayed as Great High Priest surrounded by two groups of apostles. It is an excellent and rare example of Post-Byzantine ecclesiastical embroidery because of the iconographic subject, the surviving dedicatory inscription, the artistic style and even the technical characteristics.
