Abstract
Pityous (modern Pitsunda) is one of the oldest Episcopal centers in the Caucasus. The first church was built outside the walls of the Roman castellum. At the beginning of the 10th century a domed church was erected as the cathedral of the archbishop of Soterioupolis. During the 2006-2007 excavation sessions, a residential complex was discovered next to the north wall of the domed church; this complex dates to Late Antiquity. Α double church became the third Christian center of Pityous.
