Abstract

The article presents two unpublished triptychs that were bought for the collections of the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens. The triptychs both of which can be dated by the end of the 16th century bear all those features, either in terms of their iconography and art, either in terms of woodcarving, that can relate the latter to products of Cretan workshops. In both works the depictions of Saint John, the Theologian and Hosios Christodoulos together are clear indications, which along with the choice of the other saints, point to a specific "Patmian" iconographic inspiration. It is highly probable that these triptychs were commissions by monks.
