Abstract
Prints by Israhel van Meckenem and Dürer were used by two anonymous painters of the circle of Andreas Pavias in two icons dated to the early sixteenth century (one in the Musée d’ Art et d’ Histoire, Geneva, the other in the Byzantine and Christian Museum, Athens). These icons are added to the Italo-Byzantine tradition of Crete and to works that attest to the relation of Cretan painters, whether working in Crete or in Italy, with engravings that could be obtained easily in Venice.
