Une représentation du «vrai» Mandylion en Cappadoce?
Abstract
The representation of the Mandylion in Karanlık kilise displays a series of special characteristics. An examination is made of the original iconography, on the one hand, which is enriched by elements of realism, and of the position of the representation above the Holy Altar of the south apse of the church, on the other hand. It is proposed that its purpose was to depict the “true” Holy Mandylion during the time it was kept in Edessa.
