Abstract

The Catholic church of Hagia Paraskevi at Balldren in Northern Albania preserves two layers of wall paintings on its eastern wall and sanctuary conch. The first layer, which probably included two phases, is datable on the basis of internal and external evidence to the 15th century; it was an amalgam of the international Gothic and Byzantine styles. The second layer belongs to the Post-Byzantine tradition, and may be placed between the fourth and fifth decades of the 16th century.
