Byzantine icons in the church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Ioannina
Abstract
The church of the Dormition of the Theotokos (the Archimandreio) in the city of Ioannina preserves an interesting set of Byzantine and particularly post-Byzantine icons. In this article we publish three of them: the Virgin Hodegetria (1160-1180), the full-length Virgin with Child (last quarter 14th century) and the Three Holy Children martyred in Babylon, Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael (late 14th-early 15th centuries). These three constitute a unique set of Byzantine icons, one of the very few preserved in Epirus.
