Abstract
This work seeks to illustrate one of the aspects of foreign language education in Greece by presenting, on the one hand, the pupils' views on the effectiveness of language streaming, and on the other the effectiveness of this measure for foreign language learning in public schools. For this reason, a sample of students was surveyed and combined with the methods of observation as well as that of the questionnaire. The results include the depreciation of the public school and the superiority of “frontistiria” (private schools that teach foreign languages) on the part of the pupils, as well as the reduced use of modern teaching methods by the teachers of the public school.
