Abstract

To the extent that sustainability is a collective vision and endeavour, the collaboration between individuals and organizations in a community is fundamental to putting this endeavour into action. In this text, a brief review of the development of the idea of collaboration between the school and the wider community is attempted, central concepts are clarified, basic typologies are summarised and indicative examples are outlined. In addition, the main benefits, difficulties, and factors favoring the development of such collaborations are analysed.
