The historical event (Το Γεγονός) constitutes the axis that connects History and Historiography with the broader fields of the social sciences and the humanities. It is inseparably linked to theory: an interpreted occurrence approached through quantitative and discursive methodologies. It carries the meaning of the accomplished event, which various qualifying terms—social, cultural, political, and economic—attempt to capture. It also possesses a duration that is shaped in relation to the temporal scale of the processes to which it refers. In this sense, The historical event transforms structures and social relations. On this basis, the title of the journal does not merely constitute a programmatic statement; rather, it describes the event as a product that is neither natural nor artificial, but historical—something this digital edition aims to bring to the fore.
This new open-access digital periodical, published by the Postgraduate program Historical Research, Teaching and New Technologies and the Educational Innovation Lab of the Department of History and Digital Humanities at the Ionian University, provides a platform for scientific dialogue, critique, and communication. The historical event aspires to address the existing absence of a journal dedicated to original contributions, primarily by emerging researchers.
The historical event will include studies related to History, Teaching, and New Technologies. It will also welcome articles from the broader fields of the humanities and social sciences, as well as contributions on contemporary digital tools used in their research and teaching. In addition, the journal will publish reviews of recently published works.
