Meta-analysis of the association of teachers' self-efficacy and job satisfaction
Abstract
Self-efficacy is an important factor that contributes to the improvement of job satisfaction and mental health of teachers. Thus, the purpose of the present research is to examine the generalisability and magnitude of the relationship of teachers’ self-efficacy and job satisfaction. 49 correlation coefficients were collected from 45 empirical studies (sample of N=28573 teachers) and were meta-analysed. The results of the random-effects meta-analysis showed that the average correlation was of moderate effect size (μ=.37) and statistically significant. Further, a multiple meta-regression model indicated that the magnitude of the correlation varies depending on the area of the sample, the type of publication and the school type, whilst the date of publication, the number of the items and the type of the questionnaire do not differentiate the magnitude of the correlation. In short, the findings of the present meta-analysis can be especially useful for increasing our understanding of the nature of the relationship between teachers’ self-efficacy and job satisfaction across countries.
