Crises, the Financial System and International Financial Centres
Abstract
Τhe economic crises of the two previous decades were major incidents for the global financial system. The global financial crisis of 2007-8, despite starting from the American financial system and hitting first the American economy, was quickly transmitted internationally threatening the stability of the global economy. The Eurozone crisis (2010-2015) was a regional debt crisis that caused major problems in the public finances of several member states and threatened the sustainability of the Eurozone banking systems. The two crises affected among other things, the size and the structural features of the American, Chinese and Eurozone financial systems. The aim of the chapter is to investigate the major changes that occurred in the weight and influence of these
major financial centers during the period of the major economic crises that hit the global economy in the previous two decades.
