Abstract

Narrative approaches have been increasingly utilized in recent years in psychotherapy, personal development, and life and career planning. The narrative approach highlights humanity’s fundamental “privilege”—language and storytelling—as a tool for synthesis, meaning-making, and productive change, providing support for active lifelong practice, in the sense of “prattein” as formulated by Aristotle—that is, as action that serves life.
In this context, the book brings together the widely applied empowerment techniques and assessment tools of the narrative approach, as well as empirically grounded interventions in narrative practice. Comprehensive knowledge of effective and practical methods for fostering reflection and self-awareness is an essential tool for engaging productively, on the one hand, with unconscious inner forces, and on the other, with the opportunities and obstacles of external reality. The book is intended for those engaged in issues of personal and/or professional development and career advancement, educators of adolescents and adults, as well as students with related academic and professional interests.
