The stories we are, the stories we can become. Narrative Identity and Therapy Author: Giorgos Vleioras
Abstract
George Vleioras, Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Thessaly, wrote and published the book *The Stories We Are, the Stories We Can Become. Narrative Identity and Therapy," which she is presenting to the readers of our journal.
"The Stories We Are, the Stories We Can Become," the author notes, is a book that invites you into a dialogue. It consists of 13 chapters divided into two parts. The first part offers an overview of what we call “narrative identity.” Narrative identity encompasses the stories we tell ourselves or others to describe how we became the people we are today and who we want to become in the future. These stories have a past (how we became), a present (who we are), and a future (who we want to become).
The second part provides an overview of some ideas drawn from narrative therapy and community practice. A key idea here is that by changing our narratives, we can change our lives.
