Abstract
Two rectangular panels with a depiction of the Annunciation are preserved in the church of the Dormition in the village Kastro of the island of Siphnos (Cyclades). The two-panels icon of the 14th-15th century, one of the few known Byzantine artworks in the Cyclades, is of great interest due to its rare type, its special iconographic features, and its fine craftsmanship. Certain elements lead to the hypothesis that it was made in Chandax in Crete by a skilled painter, obviously aware of artistic currents in the centers of the Byzantine realm, whose origin from Constantinople cannot be excluded.
