Abstract

The unpublished bilateral processional icon is exhibited in the Byzantine Museum in Kastoria and comes from the church of Hagios Alypios in the Oikonomou parish. On the main side is the later depiction of Panagia Eleoussa (1828) and on the reverse side, the Crucifixion, which is part of the earlier icon. The wood and the painting are extremely damaged. The original icon of the Crucifixion was executed by the same painter or workshop that painted the wall paintings in the church of Hagios Alypios (second half of the 14th century). The painting is of high quality and perfection.
