Abstract

The church of the Virgin / Panagia in Piskopio, Syros belongs to the cross-in-square transitional type and possibly to the shortened/ abbreviated variant in which the west corner bays do not communicate with the west cross arm. It has undergone later renovations during which the conches of the sanctuary and prothesis were removed. Fragments of a marble altarscreen panel are preserved. It is dated with reservation to the 11th century.
