The painted decoration in the church of St Athanasios at Koustochori, Imathia and its relationship with the Kastoria workshop
Abstract
The single nave church of Saint Athanasius at Koustochori of Imathia has an extended fresco decoration dated in the last decades of the 15th century. In terms of disposition, choice of subjects and iconography the frescoes present many affinities with other painted decorations that belong or have been attributed to the workshop of Kastoria. However, in terms of style, the mural paintings of Saint Athanasius belong to a current that is highly anticlassical and to which have been ascribed several contemporary painted decorations in the broader region of Veria.
