Abstract

The silver reliquary shaped as an oblong casket is kept in the Byzantine & Christian Museum Athens. The Transfiguration of Christ on the lid is represented, on the long sides are prophets below arches and on the narrow sidesthe Nativity and the Annunciation are represented. The scenes are framed by inscriptions which inform us that the reliquary was made by a priest named Adam from the Vlach-speaking village of Nikolitza and Diamantis. It was dedicated collectively by faithful Christians to the monastery of the Dormition of the virgin in the village of Konska in the region of Tepeleni, Albania on 15 July 1776.
