Les donnateurs de la Perivleptos de Mistra
Abstract
The Donors of Perivleptos at Mystra
The article summarizes the conclusions that were drawn from the thesis of the researcher who studied the monastery of Perivleptos. Furthermore, some new evidence from the painted decoration of the church along with the heraldic insignia of it placed in several spots of the interior is being re-examined. On the other hand, the systematic scrapping off of the latter should probably be considered as a reaction towards the pro-Western politics that was induced by the ruling couple of Manuel and Isabelle. Hence, it could be presumed that the monastery was a despotic foundation which was probably destined for his spouse, Isabelle, her court and relatives.
