Abstract

Hosios Christodoulos of MountLatrosfounded a monastery at Pylion  on Κos in 1080. Archaeological and historical research suggest that the church of Panagia at Palio Pyli on Κos should be identified with the church of Panagia ton Kastrianon, katholicon of his monastery on the island. The church, a barrel-vaulted structure with a single apse and a middle-Byzantine synthronon, has also a narthex of a later period. Six columns, three on each side, are supporting the vault and at the same time three blind arches are formulated into the thickness of each long wall.
