The importance of collaborative activities in reducing stress and improving learner performance in distance learning environments
Abstract
Stress is an integral part of adult’s everyday life and is reflected in the educational process in which each student is involved. Given that the distance education process is one of the increasingly used educational methods, it is worth investigating the feelings expressed during it, as well as the way social presence in an e-learning environment fight stress. The aim of this research study is to highlight the stress-inducing factors of adult learners in distance teaching and learning environments and consequently to articulate the role of collaborative activities in reducing learners’ stress in order to infer the improvement of performance and the completion of studies of the adult learners. Semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions were used for the research. The results of the research confirmed the stress factors of adult learners as formulated in the international and domestic literature and added some more. At the same time, he highlighted the necessity of positive emotions during the learning process and the usefulness of collaborative activities in educational planning.
