Abstract
The paper approaches experiential learning in environmental education based on a broader scientific and social dialogue regarding human-nature relationship. Inspired by the radical legacy of Henry David Thoreau on nature, students of an environmental education course at a University Department of Early Childhood Education engaged in a nature journaling assignment. Through the pedagogical methodology of nature journaling, they explored their relationship with the nonhuman world and reflected on their experience. In the framework of this research, connection with nature is explored in relevance to the current need for overcoming nature/culture dualism. Finally, human-nature relationship is analysed under the lens of phenomenology, emerging the benefits of an experiential approach to nature that includes human senses and feelings.
