Περίληψη
Η συστηματική εφαρμογή του εμβολιακού προγράμματος έχει συμβάλει αποφασιστικά στον έλεγχο των λοιμωδών νοσημάτων, όπως η πανλευκοπενία, οι ιώσεις της ανώτερης αναπνευστικής οδού και η λοίμωξη από Bordetella spp, η ιογενής λευχαιμία, η λοιμώδης περιτονίτιδα και η χλαμυδίωση που απειλούν την υγεία και τη ζωή της γάτας. Οι εμβολιασμοί στα γατάκια που έλαβαν πρωτόγαλα αρχίζουν στις 6 εβδομάδες της ζωής τους, ενώ σ' εκείνα που το στερήθηκαν στις 4 εβδομάδες με τη χρήση νεκρών εμβολίων. Ο στόχος ενός εμβολιακού προγράμματος συνίσταται στην επιτυχή εγκατάσταση της ανοσίας στα πρωτοεμβολιαζόμενα ζώα και τη διατήρηση της σε προστατευτικά επίπεδα με τους ετήσιους αναμνηστικούς εμβολιασμούς. Οι σχετικά σπάνιες στην πράξη μετεμβολιακές επιπλοκές περιλαμβάνουν τους 4 τύπους υπερευαισθησίας, την πιθανολογούμενη ανοσοκατασταλτική δράση των εμβολίων (ανοσολογικές) τις τοπικές αντιδράσεις στο σημείο της έγχυσης, τις παθολογικές καταστάσεις που σχετίζονται με την αναπαραγωγή, τη μετεμβολιακή νόσο και τα εμβολιακά σαρκώματα (μη ανοσολογικές).
