Abstract

This paper presents a research on the impact of professional development and post-graduate studies on the teaching practices of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) state school teachers in Greek secondary education (Gymnasiun - IESCD 3). A series of observations and semi-structured interviews were used in a sample of 68 teaching sessions and 28 teachers respectively. It was concluded that there can be a significant impact of teachers’ post graduate studies and out-service training on the application of teaching practices that are oriented towards communicative methods. However, it was demonstrated that in-service training does not correlate to the use of communicative practices.
