The anatomy of US international monetary power: hegemony or conditional leadership?

Abstract
The pace of financial globalization has transformed the structure of world economy. The US position as the predominant financial leader is being eroded by severe external economic imbalances, which pose doubts about the future stability and value of the dollar. Indeed, American ‘Arche’ does not have the necessary capabilities to face greater economic interdependencies, increasing global and peripheral systemic complexities and numerous claims by major economic forces. The article, based on recent comparative monetary data and macroeconomic indicators, argues in favor of collective economic management among the most industrialized nations in fundamental monetary issue- areas.
