Corporate social responsibility: a different insight in today’s corporate environment
Abstract
The author aims at examining the concept of corporate social responsibility [CSR] within the historical context of the last decades but also determining how it relates to other concepts and manifests itself in various differentiations. At a second level, she presents in some detail the stages of acceptance and integration of CSR in the world of business, as well as international, European and national initiatives for CSR such as Global Compact, European Alliance for CSR, Global Reporting Initiative, the Hellenic Network for CSR. In her concluding remarks, the author argues that CSR does not reflect a transient need nor does it exhaust itself at the level of the charity work or sponsorship undertaken by businesses. Corporate Social Responsibility is a challenge of strategic importance for all businesses today.
