Donaldo Macedo
Abstract
In this interview, Donaldo Macedo analyzes the social dimensions of bilingualism and the range of discriminatory practices that immigrants are confronted with. Through his own account of being a bilingual student in the US, he emphasizes teachers' role in recognizing the political dimensions of their work and in adopting a critical pedagogical approach in educating bilingual students. The interview also addresses Macedo's relationship with Paulo Freire and the role of academics as public intellectuals.
