Inter-war political and ethnic conflict: The greek civil war in the area of Kastoria
Abstract
This study deals with the ethnic dimension of the Greek Civil War concentrating in an area of northwestern Macedonia. The main goal is to examine the entanglement of the distinct cultural groups of the area of Kastoria in the general conflict and the role that the inter-war conflicts between locals and refugees played in the formation of the different camps of the war. Through the study at the local level, we are able to investigate the reasons behind the alliances of these groups, and explore how the breach between cultures and national affiliations intersected with the conflicting political ideologies (not only on a Greek, but also on a Balkan and global level).
